EV Home Grants Ireland [Update January 18th, 2024]

Update: The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has reduced the EV Home Charging Grant from €600 to €300 as of January 1st, 2024. The move is designed to reinvest the funds in the public EV charging infrastructure in Ireland.

The face of motoring has changed and it will continue to evolve. Irish motorists are becoming increasingly more aware of the environment and switching to electric vehicles. In fact, Electric Vehicles now make up 31% of all newly registered vehicles on Irish roads and the figures are set to reach new heights every month.

As Ireland adopts electric vehicles, many Irish consumers are seeking information about the process of buying an EV and installing an EV home charging unit. Here at WattCharger, we hope to guide Irish consumers through the process, specifically in regard to purchasing and installing a home charging solution.

Once you purchase an electric vehicle, you’ll need to purchase the appropriate home charging unit. The good news is that The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland is offering a 600 Euro grant to support Irish consumers making the transition.

To help you understand how to qualify for the EV grant, the team here at WattCharger has listed the stipulations below:

• The owner must have acquired an EV in 2018 or after to be eligible for the home charger grant. This includes second-hand purchases and imported vehicles registered after 2018.
• The EV must be parked in a private residence off any public roads and it must be connected to the residential fuse box. The SEAI will use a ‘meter point reference number’ on your electricity bill to confirm the location of your property.
• The property must not be associated with a previous charger grant.
• Fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles are eligible for the grant but not mild-hybrid EVs.

If you do qualify for the EV home charging grant, the SEAI will send a confirmation letter to the homeowner. Once received, WattCharger’s installation team can install a home charging unit quickly.
